Instant Feedback - Supreme Court/Control of D.C. Schools
We have an on-the-scene report by Linda Greenhouse regarding the first war on terror case argued before the Supreme Court today. This one regards the legitimacy of holding prisoners in Guantanamo Bay without giving them rights accorded others arrested in this country. It does not look good for the Bush Administration. The Washington Post explains that Mayor Anthony Williams plan to take direct charge of public schools was firmly defeated by the D.C. council. It seems that they could not reconcile in their minds the argument that control by the mayor was the only way to fix the many problems with education in the nation's capital with the facts that child care programs already managed under this framework have been fraught with problems.
