School Update And A Response

In a future column I plan to clarify things a bit. Donors should not give general operating funds for the university used at the discretion of the central administration. They should identify particular individuals or programs and give funds restricted for use by these individuals of programs. When I was chariman of the Econ department, the money I raised was strictly for activities that I sanctioned, e.g., fellowships, faculty travel/reserach, etc., etc.
