WEDJ at the Soldiers Home
Last night the D.C. Public Charter School Board approved our amendment requests to increase our enrollment ceiling and to operate on another campus. In other words they agreed to allow us to take over Tri-Community PCS.
Our school will now expand to a second campus located in N.W. Washington, D.C. The unanimous vote was a testament to the high quality work we are doing at our school. One board member, Tony Colon, complimented WEDJ on making AYP and our performance generally.
We already have 100 lottery forms for students who currently attend Tri-Community to go to WEDJ at the Soldiers Home next Fall. Tri-Community has 130 kids.
At the same meeting the Cesar Chavez Public Charter School for Public Policy, the institution where I first started learning about charter schools nearly nine years ago, was placed in warning status for failing to meet certain academic targets as part of their ten year preliminary charter review. This is sad for a school that from the beginning emphasized its rigorous college prep academic curriculum.
