WEDJ To Expand
The William E. Doar Jr. Public Charter School has received an amendment from the DC Public Charter School Board to open a performing arts high school 2 years ahead of schedule. We are currently recruiting students for the Fall for our 9th grade.
Also, The State Education Office has approved a 1 million dollar loan guarantee so that we can build out an additional 15,000 square feet on our building's 1st floor. A local bank is sending us the terms of a 1.5 million dollar loan that will cover the construction.
The support we have received from parents, students, the community, board members, staff, the D.C. Public Charter School Board, the State Education Office, and local banks has been extremely rewarding. Many many people believe in what we are doing.
I feel sorry for Deborah Gist, the head of the State Education Office. She personally has helped us. Today another Washington Post article addresses problems with the way charter school funds were handled by others in her department. Now the SEC is in the act.
