Blacks In America

2 well-written well-reasoned commentaries appear today looking at the plight of blacks in this country. Joy Jones, a Washington, D.C. writer, exams the cause of the large number of never been married black women, a statistic which stood at 41.9 in 2001, according to the U.S. Census.

Next, Orlando Patterson, a professor of sociology at Harvard University, looks at the black male side of things. His point is that recent economic and social conditions have been blamed for the sad state of black males but that its about time we looked at group cultural causes.

Since both of these articles are fantastic I'm not going to give away their explanations for the way things are. You should read these yourself. I will say that I agree with both authors.
