Universal Healthcare In Massachusetts 

When I first heard about Governor Romney's plan to provide universal healthcare coverage in Massachusetts I felt as all libertarians do, namely that compulsory insurance coverage is a bad idea since it will force up the price of medicine due to increased demand. However, if you read the Governor's piece in today's OpinionJournal.com he makes some interesting points and addresses those of us in the free market movement directly:

Some of my libertarian friends balk at what looks like an individual mandate. But remember, someone has to pay for the health care that must, by law, be provided: Either the individual pays or the taxpayers pay. A free ride on government is not libertarian.

He even faults the Democrats for placing a tax on those companies that fail to provide their employees with health insurance. Now I'm inclined to watch this experiment to see what happens.
