Another Charter Bites The Dust

Dion Haynes chronicles the woes of The New School for Enterprise and Development, whose principal is now being accused of cooking kid's grades to impress the D.C. Public Charter School Board. The Board has already decided to shutdown New School for academic and financial shortcomings.

The most interesting part of the article to me is Mr. Hayne's mention that D.C. has already spent 30 million dollars on the school since the year 2000. I say get ready for the backlash regarding how much public money is being spent on charters. A quick estimate is that for each child a charter school gets $10,000 in per pupil funds for both operations and facility. If there are approximately 17,000 kids now attending a charter school then that adds up to $170,000,000. Is it worth it?
