Watergate Coverage
I have to admit I'm nostalgic for the good old days of the Watergate scandal. If my memory serves me right during this period there was no left or right interpretation of what Nixon had done and was in the process of doing. Yes, there were a few Republicans that stood by him no matter what. But the great majority of people recognized that the President was a danger to this country and had to go.
But times have changed. Now there is no news story that is not seen from an ideological lens. How else to explain the terribly nasty things that are being written about Mark Felt now that he has identified himself as Deep Throat. Some are arguing that he should have exposed the Nixon Administration in public or brought his case directly to the Special Prosecutor. I think these people need to go back and read "All the President's Men" to understand why this would have never worked. The environment was such that the investigation would have been blocked by the White House. Then you have the idiotic stuff Peggy Noonan writes today in OpinionJournal.com. It is so bad that I can't reprint it here.
