Rudy Giuliani's Speech
I could have listened to him for hours. He did a perfect job of tightly linking the history of terrorism to his personal recollections of 9/11/01. His main point was that the world's lack of decisive retribution against terrorist acts sent a message to these crazy people that it was not only perfectly fine to continue to commit acts of murder against innocent people, but that the bolder they became the more attention they would get for the illegitimate causes. Giuliani made the case that President Bush, with his stand in Iraq, was the one leader demonstrating the bravery to turn this tide around. You could feel Giuliani's sense of determination, optimism, and morality in every one of his words.
I also enjoyed his poking fun at John Edwards two Americas speech, suggesting that it was a convenient metaphor that would allow John Kerry to vote one way on an issue in one American, and to take the opposite stand at the same time in the other one.
I think I lost it when they showed Frank Sinatra singing "New York, New York" when his speech concluded.
By the way, Reason Magazine is blogging at the convention which you can enjoy by clicking here.
