D.C. School Superintendent Candidates Narrowed To One
Sewell Chan of the Washington Post reports today that the job of superintendent for D.C. Public Schools will be offered to Clifford Janey. Mr. Janey was head of the school system in Rochester, New York and prior to that superintendent of a part of the Boston school system. Mr. Chan's story credits Mr. Janey with raising minority student test schools while in Rochester. However, the educator also ran into problems with his school board and mayor over a $45 million dollar deficit, which eventually resulted in a buyout of his contract. With the job that our city has done in the past regarding fiscal responsibility in the schools does anyone except for me see a warning sign? I wonder if Nathan over at The D.C. Education blog can investigate this aspect of Mr. Janey's career for us?
