Are DC Voucher Kids Discriminated Against?

Today, Dion Haynes quotes a couple of families who participate in D.C. private school voucher program as saying they are treated differently because teachers know they are at these schools through a scholarship.

I guess this is true. Although the names of students in the program are supposed to be kept confidential you know how it works in school. I would think that information like this travels in seconds throughout the facility.

Remember: Parents who choose vouchers are brave. They have removed their student from a neighborhood school and put them in a new strange environment in which the child may be much different from regular students. I bet that in almost all cases the child will be successful, but it will not be easy.

I tried to read the original study but it is not yet on the web site of the Georgetown Public Policy Institute. I'll write more when I can see it. The good news is that the author of the study, Professor Patrick Wolf, has extremely strong credentials in the school choice field, having written with Harvard Professor Paul Peterson.
