Helping Your Kid In School

Washington Post reporter Valerie Strauss asked several prominent and regular people the best way a parent can help their kid in school. My response?

1. Read to him at home,
2. Have a parent there in the morning to see him off to school and home at the end of the day when school is over,
3. Be involved in homework assignments,
4. Volunteer in the school, and
5. Know who your child's friends are and encourage them to be associated with those who do well in school.

This week is our last back-to-school night with one kid at NYU and another who is spending her senior year taking courses at the high school and a local community college. We are excited and relieved at the same time.
