All New Ideas Are Old
It appears that my suggestion that the manager of books for DCPS, Donald Winstead, be fired has already been done. But like a politician who is found smoking crack and then is sent back to represent the fine people of the District of Columbia, Mr. Winstead was reinstated to his job after being dismissed in 1998 by former Superintendent Arlene C. Ackerman. The reason he lost his job? The failure to deliver books to schools on time.
The reporter for the Washington Times who uncovered the story, Gary Emerling, could not determine why he got his job back in 2000. It seems that part of his personnel file is missing.
"My record is clean," said Mr. Winstead. So is the record of all of us who have watched what has taken place at our public schools and done nothing about it.
