Brave Move By Robert Samuelson 

Over the years I have only on a few occasions enjoyed columns by economist Robert Samuelson, finding him too moderate for me. But there is nothing moderate about his recent editorial attacking his employer (Newsweek) for its cover story assailing those who question the science behind global warming. After repeating almost verbatim the current libertarian position on the issue and discussing how difficult it would be to reduce CO2 emissions he comments:

Newsweek's "denial machine" is a peripheral and highly contrived story. Newsweek implied, for example, that Exxon Mobil used a think tank to pay academics to criticize global-warming science. Actually, this accusation was discredited long ago, and Newsweek shouldn't have lent it respectability.
