506 Applicants For 271 Slots
That's how many kids applied for private school vouchers in Washington, D.C. and how many were available at the second year lottery for grades 6 through 12. 66 private schools are participating, up from 53 last year. About 45 of the schools have a religious affiliation.
The bottom line is that 800 low-income children from poor performing public schools have been given a life preserver in the form of a voucher. Its now time see what needs to be done to expand the program.
